The Tobacco Indemnification and Community Revitalization Commission has awarded Piedmont Access to Health Services, Inc. (PATHS) a $400,000 grant to be used in purchasing the facility it currently occupies in Boydton.
PATHS has operated a federally qualified community health center located in Boydton since 2012, serving Boydton and surrounding Mecklenburg County. It is the only healthcare facility between South Hill and Clarksville.
PATHS is currently leasing the space located at 380 Washington Street, Boydton, from the USDA, which has a lien on the space. The building is in need of repair. With support from the Tobacco Commission, PATHS will have the resources to not only purchase the building but to complete the necessary repairs.
The space currently houses PATHS’ medical and dental services, as well as a community fitness center. Once the purchase is complete, PATHS plans to partner with other organizations to fill the building with services that will continue the original mission of the facility by adding new and expanded services.
Any revenue generated from sub-leasing pharmacy space and administrative space will be invested back into the upkeep of the facility. The facility also has a large foyer that the community uses for meetings, events and special occasions. The central location of the facility makes it convenient for the community to access.
Kay Crane, CEO of PATHS, said, “These funds given by TIC will provide more access to care, lessen the financial burden of PATHS in purchasing the space and create an integrated system of care that is needed in the area.”
The board and staff are very grateful for this partnership, Crane went on to say.
“It will ensure that this area is covered by medical care for years to come,” she said.
